Decree of Ellinor Clague  1799-1    Lonan

(Also Deed of Gift to her son Joseph)



Know all men by these presents that I Elinor Clague

widow Relict and Executrix of the last will and

Testament of John Clague of Balla-grow in the Parish

of KK Lonnan my late Deceased Husband for and

in consideration of the love Good will Esteem and

affection I have and do bear towards my Eldest

and most Dutiful son Joseph Clague of the

aforesaid parish. Therefor Have Given Granted

Confirmed and Settled And by these Presents do

freely Clearly and absolutely Give Grant Confirm

and Settle upon him my said son Joseph Clague

half of my houshold furniture in present possession

and other half of the said Premises at my Decease

Together with all my Goods both moveable and

immoveable of what Kind Denomination or

nature so ever at my Decease as aforesaid To

have and to hold unto him the said Joseph Clague

his Heirs Exec’rs adm’rs and assigns the above

mentioned premises at my Decease to all Intents

and purposes without the Claim or challenge of

any person or persons claiming any Right or

Title to the same whatsoever and Likewise that

my said son Joseph Clague may Enjoy and posses

all or any part of the said Goods whenever the same

may be found or Remaining after my Decease

In consideration thereof he my said son Joseph

Clague his Heirs and assigns do promise to pay

          in case I shall “----“ him

me During my natural Life ^ And for the True

and faithful Performance hereof I the said Elinor

Clague with my said son Joseph Clague do hereby

bind and oblige the one unto the other our heirs

Exec’rs adm’rs and assigns in and under the penalty

of forty Pounds Sterling to be Levied and paid

accord to Law As Witness our Subscription

this 15th December 1788        Elinor Clague my X

At a Chapter Court holden at Douglas Oct’r 8th 1798


The Within Deed of Gift & Settlement having been lawfully

proved before the High Bailiff and Elinor Clague

     the same is accepted as and for her last will & Testament

the Donor having lately departed this Life ^ and

Joseph Clague the Donee having also departed this

Life in her Lifetime, Intestate, The Court doth

decree Mary Clague his Widow (in her own Right)

and Joseph, John James Edward Jane and Elinor

Clague his Children (in his Right) Exor’x thereof

and the said Edward being under age and the other

Children absent from Court She the said Mary

Clague is thereupon sworn Guardian & Supervisor

of the said Edward and to pay all the just Debts

of the said Donor and also to render unto her said Co-Exors

a true and just Account of the said Donr’s Effects

and to these Ends She hath given pledges in Form

of Law namely the Rev’d John Gell and John

Moore both of KK Lonan
