Gail and I spent most of our early married years living in remote towns and villages from Quebec to British Columbia. We had three children of school age who were generally only free to travel in July and August of each year. Getting out of the places we lived during those years often involved a day’s travel by car just to get to an airport. As a result our annual vacations usually involved a visit to home towns and parents or relatives. The thought of leaving the country, except for a few ventures into the northern States of the US, was not even a consideration. As we became empty nesters it soon occurred to us that we could see more of the world. And we have done so!
